View Full Version : NUS financial aid: how 'poor' must you be?

Hi all,

I apologise if any thread like this has been posted, but I have not seen anything about financial aid.

Excuse the bluntness of the question: unofficially, reading between the lines of all the criteria stated on the website, how 'poor' must you be to qualify for financial aid? Is it worth applying for it if you are in 'the sandwiched group'?

Many of us here are middle-class citizens, living in 5-room HDB or maybe Executive Condo. An education bill of approx SGD30,000 (approx median for FASS, FoS, SoC) spread over four years is no laughing matter.

Thanks. Prospectives from current students would be great!

If you are talking about tuition fees, there are few options that can cover up to 100% of the fees. The calculation is based on the scenario where MOE has granted you tuition grant.

1) Bank Loan up to 90% of tuition fee
2) Parents' CPF
3) Loans and bursaries from various organizations including NUS.

There is no absolute bench mark for "poor". For 3), NUS OFS will assess all information you have submitted and decide which financial assistance you need.
