Hi all,

This is Brightsparks' official US college admission thread for 2011!
For those who are curious as to why I've come up with this thread, it's simple. The only other website I know where prospective students get to discuss about their admissions is CollegeConfidential.com, which caters more towards our American counterparts.

Ok, without further ado, let me begin by introducing myself. (Next post)

Make use of the template provided. Ty.

hey mozbi. Mind sharing how were ur A level results? Also, can I apply to more than 1 course in that university for early action? Cause I wanna apply to UMich for Early Action. I'm Re-doing SAT and doing 3 SAT subject tests. Phy Chem and Math. But my A level grades are: GP B PW B MT A Chem B Math B Econs H1 A Physics C.

Hey Avatar, you can only submit one application per year to Mich, which means to say you can only apply to one course in Mich each year. I scored 4As(3H2s 1 H1) which probably played a huge factor in my acceptance. Good SAT scores alone won't get you into the school. They have deferred and rejected many students this year with scores of between 2.2k-2.3k. Also, not to discourage you or anything but according to statistics, UMich's application volume has risen by ~20-30% this year since moving over to Common App and being one of the few good schools with a non-binding early decision. Therefore, if you do the simple math, more applicants with the same number of available slots means competition gets tougher and the school's admittance rate will fall. Another thing to note is that UMich takes a holistic approach in reviewing its applications. For a better idea of how they do it you should take a look at their rating sheet in this website:

General Comments: Man this is one tough year for college admissions! I was rejected by 11 colleges outright, wait-listed at Amherst and no news from UMich. Very grateful to be able to squeeze through the narrow doors of Berkeley, especially since its very strong in my major :D My advice for anyone taking on the horrors of college applications next year is to pour your heart into each application, write very personal and thoroughly researched "Why do you want to come to XXX school" kind of essays! With the Commonapp, there are just so many people who spam apply that you HAVE to stand out in this area. My application to Berk was most personal out of my 14 since I had visited their campus before. Well, unless you're the type of genius that expects to be accepted across the board ;) (yes, they exists, demons..).

Congrats there!! :D Berkeley is excellent! Yes, US admissions have been increasingly tough each year! But glad that at least you've one of the best universities at hand!

Hey congrats! Those are all really good schools!

Just curious, what are the other schools that you have applied to and what are the outcomes?
