Hello everyone,

I have gone through almost all of the threads about career prospects in many fields.

Here is one I would like to know about:

A Geography Bachelor's Degree. (other than MOE)

Thank you!:)

Singapore-wise, perhaps meterologist & population policy planner are possible...
but what is more fascinating are earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes and all those natural disasters! :D
I know there is the Earth Obs of Singapore in NTU, is it like a research centre like a mini Singaporean USGS then?

dude i have no idea. but if you wanna study natural disasters like that, earthquakes --> study in california, they have alot due to the san andreas fault.
volcanoes --> japan (island arc) or hawaii (mantle plumes)
tornadoes --> likely kansas and other midwest states. go to the unis there, their research is likely very good coz they're in the disaster zones =/

Singapore doesn't have much prospects for such realms of geog given how relatively 'safe' we are from natural disasters.

a Geography degree could still land you a job in banking, teaching or even HR to some extent !

as for degree-related jobs in Singapore... NParks ? Meteorology Dept ? URA ? Oil/Petroleum companies ? Field research teams ?

Thanks for your legendary reply. Hehe :D

Oil/Petroleum companies?
what does one work as there with geog degree?
do enlighten!

ive read some employment article while browsing through Brightsparks forum, and to my disappointment, there is no indication of anything geog-related in singapore. For green tech, i think its mostly for enviro-engineers..but would love to work with green tech.

i love geog as a subject so i thought of pursuing it but doubts surface when it comes to jobs..as usual, the passion vs practical debate

You can probably do field surveying and stuff like that, for Oil/Petroleum companies. not sure if that requires technical knowledge as well, but I am just guessing and assuming !

Aww man, it really looks like there isnt much for Geog-related in SG...
I even did a random job search for B.A in Geog.. The closest thing i could find was GIS Specialist. :)
