I guess they were looking more at my interests and passions rather than academic achievements. Overall it was a short 20 minute interview
Thanks for sharing your experience!! Is it more of knowing about you to decide if you are suitable for the accountacy course? Just curious did you end up in smu accountancy?

Yes, I believe SMU conducts interviews for all applicants because they are not only interested in grades but in other aspects such as your personality and your interests. This allows them to see if you will be able to fit into the smu culture, and also gives applicants who may have not done so well in the exams but demonstrate other valuable attributes a chance at earning a spot. This is unlike the other universities (NUS and NTU) where the success of your application lies predominantly on your UAS, and they do not get a chance to meet you personally. For me, I was offered Accountancy & Business from both NTU and SMU and ultimately chose NTU because of various reasons such as hall experience, having a more established accountancy programme.

No. SMU clarified this last year. They do not conduct interview for all applicants. They conduct interview for all shortlisted applicants.

Haha sorry I meant shortlisted! Apologies for that bit of misinformation on my part. I was referring to the fact that every student who enters SMU would have gone through an interview.

Hmm what do you mean by shortlisted applicants? Im guessing that these people shortlisted are the ones that do have relatively good academic grades?

Not everyone who applied may have met the cut off points. Some could be too far off, so they might not even get a chance at the interview. Most of the time, if your score matches the minimum IGP, you will most likely be shortlisted for the interview.

Exclamation Smu acct/biz/econs

Hi, I have not yet received any notification from SMU regarding an interview or a rejection. Does it mean that I have no chance for any of the 3 courses I picked?
I picked:
1) Acct
2) Biz
3) Econs

Can you guys tell me what's my chances of getting an interview?

Graduated: TP Accounting & Finance
GPA: 3.56
L1R4: 11 RAW
L1R5: 14 RAW
*Could minus 2 after CCA points.
SAT Reasoning Test: 2020 (First Attempt)
*Taking my 2nd attempt in May, predicted score: 2200+ ~ 2300+

CCA:
Part of Accounting Interest Group committee
Took part in NTU Audit and Accounting Challenge
Took part in SMU Tax Competition and ended up in Top 12
Was CSM in NCC(Land) during my secondary school days

Other activities:
Established an online retail store with $5000. Earned $4000 in profit 4 months since its inception.

How do I appeal if I fail to get an interview?
If my appeal is successful, will I be granted an interview?
When can I start appealing? After i have been rejected, or?

Please tell me what are my chances!!!! Thank you!!!

Previously got the updated profiles for NUS via newsletters, I see some step-up changes.
