Default USA tuition fees

Hi guys, I came across a few universities' webpage about tuition costs alone being in the range of 40000 to 60000 USD, which is almost twice the cost of studying in UK!!! Is this true? Do US unis really cost that much, excluding one's accommodation and other expenses? Or did I get my source wrong? Thank you

Private uni - yes in the range of usd$40-60k.
Public the range is wide!
Umich or Berkeley being the most expensive

To usd$11k or less

Even in California you can find usd$20k tuition

In U.K. Top uni like Oxbridge fees can be at least gbp$24k or usd$30k still cheaper than USA Today. In the past pound has been a lot stronger, not sure if they adjust fees due to weaker pound
