Not all OMS make it to AO.

In fact less than 1/2 each cohort I believe.

But yes, you need to become an AO before you can get those top leadership positions in Ministries and Stat Boards.

Default Law scholarships

Hi all, was just scouring the net for law scholarships and it seems as though it isint popular (iesc site doesnt have a minlaw link)...apart from that most of the scholarships for law are tie ups between companies and private entities (lexisnexis and khattarwong to name a few), and SMU. So what scholarships are there?

Any scholarship is best as long as it fits for your qualification and it's what you want.

Default Bond Free Scholarships are the best

Let's face it, there is no such thing as a free lunch. Or is there?

There are a number of bond-free scholarships out there worth $200-$500k for undergraduates to top universities. That means the graduate can pursue any path he or she chooses upon graduation. No 4-6 year bond. No 8% compounded interest to pay off.

There seems to be a miseducation about scholarships in Singapore. People perceive government scholarships as the golden ticket. It's true, if you absolutely believe in public service and adore the ministry you are attached to. Climbing the public service ladder becomes relatively straightforward. If you're not 100% informed or certain, don't take it.

Going overseas broadens your perspective. Many walk into fields unexplored or pursue academia. More pragmatic ones become bankers or consultants and make USD$60-120K/yr starting out.

There are a number of bond-free scholarships for those who need a free ticket out.

Merit scholarships – There are many colleges that provide merit scholarships that are based on academic achievement. According to US News and World Report, Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa pays the highest percentage of merit scholarships in the country with 98% of students receiving non-need based aid. Many on their list were private colleges paying merit scholarships from their endowments but there are public universities as well including University of Nevada – Reno (which happens to be my grandfather’s alma mater) where 31% of students receive non-needs based aid. At Auburn University hundreds of students apply for 6 elite scholarships which range from $2,500 – $7,500 per year over four years.
