Default 2011-2012 Updated Scholarship Advice! :)

Hey Guys, very quickly, it is the next scholarship application cycle, but the same advice still sticks for 2012-2013

Will regularly update this post!

If you need to know my credentials , please refer to what I have been through below. I can comment best on these issues; for other issues, I can still advise to my best abilities but may not be as accurate. I have kept detailed records of the interviews I went through, so my advice for my following credentials can be quite useful. However, I will NOT release my interview records.

IMPORTANT: This is not a self-inflating, egoistic post for me to boast. This is my sincere expression to help. So if you are gonna post some snide remark here, please do not. Thank You

By 'shortlisted for interview' for scholarships like STB, EMA and CAG, do you mean the most recent early cycle of 2011-2012?

Wow i see that you were awarded the two scholarships that i am currently aiming for. Could you share how your results were like? Is straight A's needed? Because i already got a B in PW and a C in H1 chinese. Also for cca can secondary school's CCA be used since for me, i did alot in secondary school (President for a year and represented nation twice in international competition) but my JC's CCA record is quite poor. If you dont mind could you post your CCA record? If not could you PM it to me?

Finally about the other thread where you recommended not to apply for scholarships during NS, when do you suggest it is best to apply for scholarships then?

Thanks in advance

My results and brief CCA records have been posted on top ^^ Just a point though, DSTA and A*STAR did not consider my Prelim results, but used my Promo results and Block Test (aka Common Test) results to make the decision. Straight As...haha far from it during the Block Tests.
CCA for my secondary school was in Symphony Band, so went through 2 SYFs. Having said that though, I hardly remember if they care about my secondary school CCA record...was never asked about it.

What type of international competitions do you go for? Science/Math related? Maybe you want to PM me your CCA record?

I think it is best to apply for scholarships from this December to after A level results release. That is when we have the most time and most relaxed really...before or at the start of NS, and most importantly, our brains have yet to slowed down, so we stand a good fighting chance. Most scholarships application will begin in January for their regular application, but most, if not all, will close about 7-10 days after A level results release so that gives you plenty of time to prepare for it.

For NS dudes, try to submit as early as possible, best if December if the scholarship application is open, so that we can have the interviews before enlistment.

Let me know if you wanna know anything else!

Well my CCA in secondary school was robotics so i guess it can be considered science/ engineering? Anyway i thought for scholarship application, A level results are required for the application and unfortunately for me i enlist in the second week of march next year (around less than a week after results release)

I thought that astar is competitive since it gives funding for phd which is essential for anyone wanting to do science research?

Relis, your CCA definitely will help. Play it up during the interview. For scholarship application, no, most if not all scholarship providers can work with all your past results up to your Prelim results; i.e. they consider ur academic history since O level up till Prelim results then they make you the offer. Haha that gives you quite a lot of time in Jan and Feb to apply and interview for scholarships...I enlist in Jan!!

Dear Grandiloquence, with all due respect, the A*STAR and DSTA scholarships are NOT back-up plans for many people. They are respectable scholarships. I say that not cos I got them..that applies to EVERY scholarship out there. Numbers do matter only that much. When you mentioned common knowledge, may I know what you are referring to?

More than 100 scholarships is pretty over-rated. DSTA awards about 50 scholarships for undergraduate studies, A*STAR about 30 scholarships for undergraduate studies. If you take a look at A*GA website, the bulk scholarships go to PhD candidates; i.e. local uni graduates who have completed their studies and want to do a PhD.

I have yet to accept any of these scholarships because I want to think carefully through. But one thing I can be confident, is that I will be far from mediocre in the organisation I choose to work in. I will see to it personally.

May I know if you are under any scholarship?
