Default Rate my chance

Hi all,
I wish to apply for aeronautical engineering in imperial College. My A level grades are:
H2 Physics:A
H2 Chemistry:A
H2 Mathematics:A
H2 Economics:A

H1 PW:A
H1 GP: D

H3 NUS Modern Phy:Merit

I know that my gp is quite bad but I heard that UK uni look at O level Eng instead of GP. I got A2 for my O level Eng.
Also, I am already offered aerospace eng and econ (ddp) from NTU and mechanical eng(specialisation in aero) and business(ddp) from NUS.
I will appreciate any help. Thank you.

Hello Sir!

You have a fairly good chance at getting into Imperial as they will technically only look at your 4 best grades, which will be AAAA.

That being said, all of your grades are fantastic apart from H1 General Paper. You should definitely allocate a short paragraph in your UCAS personal statement to explain why this was the case (perhaps you fell sick on that day, or wrote out of topic). If you have a good and genuine explanation as to why your GP grade was out of line with the rest of your results, there is a high chance the admissions tutors will be prepared to overlook the poor grade, and this should not affect your chances at getting into imperial.

Do visit us at www.successgogo.com and we can assist in reviewing your personal statement, or in providing more advice generally. Don't worry our services are all completely free of charge!

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
I was quite sick on the day I took my GP. My teacher is aware of that. Will it really help if I clarify that in my personal statement? It might not be a legitimate reason afterall.
I will surely take a look at your site as I prepare for application.

Hello Sir!

Yes you should definitely address the issue rather than staying silent and hoping the admissions tutors miss it (they won't). As an independent third party however, I would be inclined to believe your reason especially in light of your stellar grades for the other subjects.

A good way to do this would be to weave it into your personal statement without disrupting the flow of the essay. For example, you could discuss how personal adversity made you stronger by highlighting your GP grade and how you improved from that, despite the fact that you believed you could've done much better based on your previous results.

Do reach out to us when you are preparing to apply to UK, and we can work with you to get you into your dream school. I personally studied in London myself and have loads of friends from Imperial. We would love for you to be able to experience the amazing city that is London
