Default Things to take note of when studying Chemistry in uni

Hi everyone
I'm interested in knowing more about the chemistry taught in uni. I love chemistry (though I hate organic chem) but certain topics really require me to take a long time to digest before fully grasping the concept. Should I pursue a course on chemistry base on pure interest? One thing which always keeps me back is that I tend not to do well in practicals, due to one reason or another. Will this severely affect my overall study of chem in uni???
