I think first you have to decide between business and economics. One key difference would be the majors (or specialisation). From what I know, business has more majors and they are all very different, eg marketing, actuarial science, banking and finance, etc. Economics has fewer tracks, namely quantitative economics and maritime economics. So you can see, the majors are vastly different, hence choose the course which you have a greater interest in. I'm curious as to why you didn't apply for the acc+biz ddp in smu and instead went for acc+econs.

Both scholarships cover tuition fees fully but in terms of value, SMUSP wins because of the higher tuition fees at SMU, together with the notebook grant and greater living allowance. SMUSP is not just a scholarship but an entire programme dedicated to nurture top students. However, since you're also offered NTU's USP, which provides a one time grant of $5000 for guaranteed overseas exchange, and is quite similar to the SMUSP, I'd say there's no clear winner here.

NTU's business school has a longer tradition and its flagship accountancy and business programme is highly sought-after. The programme might be more integrated as it is coordinated by NBS itself, whereas at SMU it is conducted between two different schools. NTU provides undergraduates with hall experience guaranteed in the freshman year while SMU doesn't. SMU makes up for that by providing their students with multiple overseas community service projects. NTU is located pretty far from the city, but on the plus side, food is cheap. SMU is very accessible but the downside is that food can be expensive.

In conclusion, there are many differences between NTU and SMU, and you need to decide and weigh your options well according to your interests and preferences. Think about the financial expenditures, or even the school culture. Talk to your family and friends and ask them about what they think of the two universities. While it may be daunting to decide on a specific path to take, bear in mind that any decision you make will incur opportunity costs. Hence, make the decision which gives rise to the opportunity cost that you don't mind incurring, or are willing to accept, stick with it, and don't look back. Hope this helps. All the best!

What made you choose ntu biz+acc over nus and smu?

Why I chose NTU over NUS:
1. Time - 4 years to complete a double degree programme at NTU vs a single degree at NUS.
2. Curriculum - The business specialisations at NBS appeal to me more, especially Actuarial Science, which is something the other 2 universities don't offer with their business programmes.
3. Tradition and History - NBS' accountancy department is the oldest in Singapore and has produced many accomplished accountancy alumni.
4. Nanyang Scholarship with USP - Fully paid-for undergraduate education with guaranteed exchange places, overseas study trips and guaranteed hall stay for all 4 years at NTU.

Between NTU and SMU, it was a tough fight as both offered the DDP in Accountancy and Business. Ultimately, it was down to things like school culture. I like the fact that SMU encourages their students to speak up, but I believe this point is over-hyped and it's not the school that makes the individual but rather the individual himself. You can be a confident and eloquent speaker wherever you choose to study. NBS has also long switched to seminar-style teaching so SMU's comparative advantage has also diminished. I also feel that hall experience should be an integral part of university life, thus the answer was pretty clear for me.
