I was posted to Nanyang Poly for Business Management but I wish to change to Accountancy as my cut off point is only 1 point away.I wonder whether I stand a chance by going through the JAE appeal transfer system online or request to see the director personally to appeal as my teacher is willing to write a testmonial for me.
Anybody has done that successfully?
Is the business management course valuable for job careers or further education and accountancy seems to be more popular with better prospects. Can somone enlighten me on my choice?
Thanks

actually, even if you appeal into accountancy is not successful, business is not bad what. if you score well you can still go into accountancy in the local unis. alternatively you can do ACCA after you grad from poly.

Hi,

There is no harm in going through the JAE appeal transfer system. You can submit your appeal online and if there is any vacancy (eg: somebody that has been offered wishes to withdraw), you will be able to get inside. However, there is no guarantee of this.

Alternatively, make an appointment to see the course manager of accountancy and make sure you perform well when you talk to him/her. You need to be clear in your reasons on why you wish to enter accountancy.

But yeah, like PureFitness here has stated, if you cant enter accountancy in poly, you will still be able to enter in uni. The only thing is to score well enough and to be an all rounded individual to enter as accountancy is quite competitive at least for now.

That said, dont be dishearten that you did not enter where you wished to go. Just give your best and enter Poly with an open heart.

Welcome to Poly Life! You are gonna enjoy it!

Default Is A maths necessary for business and accountancy courses for local/foreign univerisities?

Hi,
As I am now in Business Management course, do I need to take A Maths at O level to enhance my chances to accountancy/business related courses for both local or foreign universities?

However I was rejected by both uni. The reason was because I didn't take Additional Maths at "O" levels.

(I didn't apply to SMU, but A maths is also required too)

Then I came across ur thread.
I would like to know is it harder for me to apply to overseas uni (UK/US)?

I saw that in UK economics is much favoured than business related degrees. However my Maths sucks (C6 at O levels).

(Anyway, the reason I hope to switch course is because I hope to enter the financial industry next time).

Mind if you could share some light on applying to overseas universities for poly students like us?

(I am looking at "target" schools that can boost my chance of getting into the financial industry)
Hi Silentears and Louis, I thought NTU will call you down for A Maths Test even though u didnt take A Maths during Os? And for NUS, they will require u to take an additional A Maths module. Not sure for SMU though.

Anyway, I am a SP Business School student too applying for both NTU and NUS Accountancy, and Business Admin. However, my current CGPA is 3.9 and I did not take A Maths for Os. (but I am currently taking a A maths module in my school and they claim that it can be used for exemptions for NUS and SMU). Can anyone also rate my chances as to whether I will be called down for the interview? Ty!

Hello!

Since you are in poly already, there is no point in taking amath at O Level. Rather, take up an A-math module in poly. This will help you for all three unis in the following method:

NTU:
They stated that they do not take into account any modules taken in Poly that is similar to A-Math. If you do not have O Level A math and your cul GPA is able to enter their course, they will call you down for a test. Details as follow from their website:

Applicants for Nanyang Business School programmes
1) Applicants who offer diplomas from the local polytechnics:
•G.C.E. 'O' Level Additional Mathematics or its equivalent is preferred
•Applicants who do not meet this Mathematics requirement or who are deemed to have not performed well for the subject – may be invited for interviews and undergo a Mathematical Test conducted by NBS

NBS will not consider any elective /module taken by the applicants from the Polytechnics as a replacement for the G.C.E. ‘O’ Level Additional Mathematics.

2) The coverage of the Mathematical Test includes:
•Functions and graphs
•Calculus
•Probability

(For details of the syllabus, candidates are encouraged to refer to the G.C.E. ‘AO’ Mathematics Test conducted by NTU for its Entrance Examination found at: http://www3.ntu.edu.sg/oad2/EE%20Que...labus_2010.pdf)

3) The Mathematical Test will last for an hour. Please bring your scientific / statistical calculators for the test.

Since you need to take the test from NTU, your foundation in the module taken in poly amath will help you to pass the test!

NUS/SMU:
From what they say during their road shows and all, they said that A math is not required. what they will do is to assess you holistically. I believe with your grounding in mathematics modules in your diploma you should be fine as long as you take up that additional elective that counts for Amath in poly.

All these are just my two cents worth yeah. From research/asking questions/surfing their website. Do check with the unis if you are really worried!

All the best!

Default someone pls help me!

So I was posted to SP banking and financial services through the 2012 jae. It was my 4th choice and I really was expecting to get posted to NP banking and financial services, which was my 2nd, since I met its cop. I was really upset that I didnt get posted to NP (I really really wanna get into NP). So at first I thought, maybe the cop went lower to like 8 or something.. but it didnt ): I went for the appeal and the appeal was unsuccessful. I really like the course but it's just that I really wanna get posted to NP. Do you think there are other ways I could still try? Like calling the staff or talk directly to the director?? Probably not since the appeal period is already over.. PLS HELP! maybe i should just be happy that I got my desired course, but not school D:

Wink Reply to smthazin

U could try out for a year. If u still dont like it then ask for a transfer within your school (higher chances) or other polytechnic. I have not come across students appealing successful from other polytechnic after year 1. Oh! btw if your appeal succeed, you have to start from year 1 again.

Why not choose SP?? SP standard kinda tough. I am in SP too. When i went out to work, i told my managers I'm from SP,they went 'whoa!'. Didnt really like my course at first until I sat down and think of it and got encouragements from friends. Now I love my course. It was my 9th choices. lol. :x
