Default Applying to Cambridge

Hey guys. I received my A level results this year and am planning on applying to Cambridge for computer science, but am kind of lost regarding the application process. Sorry if these questions seem kind of dumb but can anyone who has applied or is familiar with the process help me out with a couple of questions:

1)Is getting a referral from a teacher for the UCAS application compulsory for Cambridge?

2)Apparently computer science applicants are required to take this test called the STEP mathatics test. Does anyone have any experience with this test and how should one go about preparing for the test? I have looked at the sample questions and to be honest they look quite intimidating for someone who has only completed the H2 syllabus for maths.

Thanks!!

1) Yes

2) Cambridge itself has some useful information on STEP (as well as references to resources): http://www.maths.cam.ac.uk/undergrad/admissions/step/

Note that H2 Maths is probably equivalent to A level Maths, so avoid STEP III (which is for people who did A level Further Maths). In general, STEP IS intended to be demanding, so don't be intimidated just because it looks difficult! I would say follow the advice given - work through the questions, and compare them with the given solutions. You might want to ask your former Maths tutor for help if you're really struggling.

Are you applying for Computer Science with Mathematics? As far as I can tell, I don't think straight Computer Science requires STEP (although some colleges make you take the TSA, which is a different test): http://www.study.cam.ac.uk/undergrad...y-Requirements
