HOW THE IGP WORKS & CALCULATION OF UNIVERSITY ADMISSION SCORE

Assumptions Made in IGP Statistics
The Indicative Grade Profile assumes GP and PW to both have the grade of C.

Calculation of University Admission Score (for Standard subject combination)
Local universities take into account all six subjects (3 H2, 3 H1; in a case of a student with 4 H2, the H2 with the worst grade will be directly converted to a H1 - i.e. a B in your 4th H2 will become a H1 B).

The subjects contribute to a University admission score.

Each H2 subject has a maximum of 20 points for an A, with a decrement of 2.5 points for each grade (i.e. A-20; B-17.5; C-15 etc.).

Each H1 subject has a maximum of 10 points for an A, with a decrement of 1.25 points for each grade (i.e. A-10, B-8.75; C-7.5 etc.)

Effectively H1 is "halve" the H2. Hence, with straight A's in all 6 subjects, one can attain the maximum of (20 + 20 + 20 + 10 + 10 + 10) 90 points.

Calculation of University Admission Scores (for Subject combination beyond the norm)
Three H2 content-based subjects
Two or three H1 content-based subjects
MTL
GP
PW

Take grades in
Three H2 subjects & best H1 subject (at least one has to be a contrasting subject)
GP
PW

Four H2 content-based subjects
MTL
GP
PW

Take grades in:
Best three H2 subjects, with worst H2 subject counted as one H1 subject (at least one has to be a contrasting subject)
GP
PW

Four H2 content-based subjects
One H1 content-based subject
MTL
GP
PW

Take grades in:
Best three H2 subjects, with worst H2 subject counted as one H1 subject (at least one has to be a contrasting subject, or
Best three H2 subjects and one H1 subject (at least one has to be a contrasting subject)
GP
PW

Knowledge & Inquiry (KI)
Three H2 content-based subjects
MTL
PW

Take grades in:
KI, counted as two H1 subjects (one in place of GP and one for H1 requirement)
Three H2 subjects
PW

KI
Three H2 content-based subjects
One H1 content-based subject
MTL
PW

Take grades in:
Three H2 subjects, & better of H1 subject or KI as H1 subject (at least one has to fulfil the contrasting subject requirement)
KI as H1 subject (in place of GP)
PW

KI
Three H2 Content-based subject
Two H1 content-based subjects
MTL

Take grades in:
Three H2 subjects, & best of H1 subjects or KI as H1 subject (at least one has to fulfil the constrasting subject requirement)
KI as H1 subject (in place of GP)
PW

Mother Tongue Grade (excluding Bonus Points)
If addition of your Mothertongue grade increases your admission points, it will be taken into consideration. Add the point equivalent of your mothertongue grade (e.g. A: 10) to your score capped at 90, and it should be out of 100 now. Then, simply do a 90% calculation of that to get back a score out of 90 again. [NOTE: This is purely for admission points calculation. For Bonus Points involving Mothertongue grade, read on.]

H3 Subjects
H3's are not taken into computation of the admission points.

Law, Medicine, Dentistry
I would say the Indicative Grade Profile isn't that good of an indicator for the highly competitive courses like Medicine/Law/Dentistry, but would be adequate for gauging the admission standards of other courses. This is so because the aforementioned courses (based on 2009) have an entry requirement of 87.5 admission points, which definitely isn't well represented by the AAA/A CC as indicated in the Indicative Grade Profile (the latter being 85 admission points).

Mother Tongue Bonus Points (for Admission to MTL Related Courses)
Quote:
Admission to Mother Tongue Language (MTL) Related Courses

If you have done well in your higher MTL subject (Chinese, Malay or Tamil) or MTL subject (Chinese, Malay or Tamil) at the 'A' Level examination, you are eligible for MTL bonus points on condition that you pass the required modules in your respective MTL subjects; they are allowed to use the MTL bonus points earned to gain admission to the Arts & Social Sciences course for the following MTL-related concentrations:

1. Chinese Language or Chinese Studies.
2. Malay Studies.
3. South Asian Studies.

The following MTL bonus points will be awarded:

1. Two bonus points for applicants who attained at least an E grade H2 MTL;
2. One bonus point for applicants who attained at least an A grade in H1 MTL;
3. One bonus point for applicants who attained at least a B grade in H1 General Studies in Chinese; and
4. Students offering any combinations of MTL-related subjects are allowed to accumulate the MTL bonus points allocated for each subject, including a combination of H1 MTL and H2 MTL.
5. The cap on bonus points will be three.
6. For more information, you can visit MOE’s website at: http://www3.moe.edu.sg/cpdd/alevel2006/faqs.htm#Q29.

The MTL bonus points will be added to the Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'A' Level component for computation. The use of bonus points to gain admission to NUS is similar to the award of bonus points for admission to the Junior College Chinese Language Elective Programme.

If you have used the MTL bonus points for admission to the Arts and Social Science course, you will have to sign an undertaking at the point of acceptance.

For more information on the use of bonus points to gain admission to MTL-related courses, you can refer to MOE website.

I think it is the grade profile for 2009? 2010 admissions results not released yet right?

Anyone did the work to list down the Poly IGP too? Thanks!

Yes, 2010 admissions for A levels haven't even started. But this is the indicative grade profile meant to be used for 2010 admissions, and it was released in 2010.
